General Music Offerings

CLASS PIANO (Piano Lab) Teacher: Taylor 925515 Credit: one

Grades 9 - 12

Open –No Formal Assessment Required, Open to ALL Students

This class enrolls beginning to advanced level piano students. Students study piano technique, music theory and a variety of music genres and style appropriate to the instrument. Students will meet in a lab setting and it is very likely that they will share electronic instruments. While this is not a performance ensemble students may perform in class recitals. Group and independent work will be required.

 

BEGINNING GUITAR - Teacher: Cockrell 924515 Credit: one

Grades 9 - 12

Open –No Formal Assessment Required, Open to ALL Students

This class enrolls beginning to intermediate level guitar students. Students study guitar technique, music theory and a variety of music genres and styles appropriate to the instrument. Students will meet in a lab setting and it is very likely that they will be required to use a rental instrument in the class. While this is not a performance ensemble students may perform in class recitals. Group and independent work will be required.

 

MUSIC THEORY - Teacher: Ross 922500 Credit: one

*ADVANCED PLACEMENT MUSIC THEORY - Ross 922604 Credit: one

A prerequisite of basic piano, and/or ensemble participation in the performing arts and the instructors recommendation is required for this course This is a lab class that includes an intense study of music theory to include, written music, as well as sight singing and ear training. Students may use piano keyboards and computers in addition to written and verbal course work. This course is highly recommended for the student interested in studying music at the collegiate level. A formal placement will be required for the Advanced Placement Class. *Advanced Placement students will be required to take the AP Music Theory exam.
